About Student Selected Component

Background:
The Prime Medical and Dental College is a newly established medical school at Peshawar, recognized by PM&DC for 100 MBBS students. The school launched an integrated curriculum with innovative themes and methods such as IMPACT (Identity, management & leadership, professionalism, activities and communication, teaching), REAL (research, ethics and legal issues), PBL, CBL, and SGDs.

Aim and Purpose:
The school planned innovations for the clinical years and introduced Student-Selected Components (SSC) to support the core curriculum and allow students to:
a) Control their own learning and develop self-directed learning skills.
b) Study in depth topics of interest beyond the core curriculum.
c) Develop greater confidence in their own skills and abilities.
d) Present results verbally, visually, or in writing.
e) Consider potential career paths.
f) Learn about and begin to develop and use research skills.

SSC at Prime Medical and Dental College:
International SSCs are introduced through a competitive process in Year-3. A core SSC is introduced in Year-4, and an optional SSC in Year-5.
